Turf Installation 101
Use a powered sod cutter or hand tools (shovels, pickaxe, and wheelbarrow) to remove the existing grass. Dispose of the grass properly.
For a new construction project, ensure the contractor grades the soil at least four inches below walkways and sidewalks.
Install a base layer of mixed rock or crushed miscellaneous base material. This ensures a smooth and flat surface for the artificial turf.
Compress the base material using a barrel roller or slide compactor.
Unroll the artificial turf and let it set in the sun for half a day. This pre-installation step helps the turf adjust.
Rough-cut the turf with a razor knife to fit the dimensions, leaving a little extra for final adjustments.
Install common 60D nails three to four inches apart along one end of the turf.
Stretch the entire piece taut and work down the sides and center, keeping edge nails three to four inches apart and center sections 12 to 24 inches apart.
Spread pet-friendly infill (such as sand) evenly over the turf.
Use a power sweeper or broom to brush the infill into the fibers.
Note: Some of our turf products are non-infilled.
Tuck the edges of the turf under concrete or other borders to prevent weed growth.
