Is CARPET MAKING A COMEBACK? Carpet vs. hardwood

CURRENT PROMOTIONS:

We all know that carpet will never fully “go out”, but we have noticed it not being as popular as other flooring options in the last few years. According to designers in 2022 carpet has made a full welcome comeback! Whichever room you are decorating the flooring is going to be a huge focal point and showstopper so it is important to choose correctly: Wood Flooring or Carpet? We will go through the important aspects to think about when it comes to selecting each of these, and where one is more necessary over the other. CARPET:

Carpet is a great way to introduce color and pattern into any home. Designers in 2022 have announced that the trends are going to be bold, creative, and imaginative. For the most part, carpet trends are usually pretty timeless, but on the occasion, they could become very bold and the main statement for the rest of the flow of a room. For many years, carpet stayed very plain and neutral to stay versatile, but we are seeing more textures, patterns, and bold colors in 2022. When it comes to selecting the vibe, you are going for, imagine it in the room first. Is it a bedroom? A living room? An office? Whatever it may be, decide the vibe and look you are going for before selecting any sort of flooring. Carpet will always be your soft, plush, and cozy option if that is something that is important to you. That can sometimes be the reason that people shy away from hardwood flooring, but it all has to do with more of a personal preference. When it comes to cost there is not a MAJOR difference especially when it comes to the space you are filling so you have to decide if carpet is more of your style or hardwood flooring.

HARDWOOD:

Hardwood floors are always going to be your durable, flexible, timeless, and beautiful option. When choosing hardwood floors, you can always decide to change the look of them if ever desired, versus carpet you have to rip up and fully start over if you hate your selection in the years to come. Hardwood can always be sanded down and stained to give it a fresh new look. The downfall is initially it can cost more, but as trends change so can the hardwood floors. Hardwood floors trap no toxins which includes the terrible truths of mold spores and dust, but you do have the occasional slipups that can come from day-to-day life, and sometimes during install these can take place. The main downfall of hardwood flooring would be you do lose the plush and cozy option that carpet would give you, and although they are very durable you can have traction issues when it comes to pets and children and their slick surfaces. Overall, hardwood floors will always be classic and a great option, but it depends if you want the plush/cozy/soft option that carpet gives you.

HARDWOOD VS. CARPET:

So, the million-dollar question, which do you pick? Truly, it comes down to preference of each person. Some people HATE hardwood floors, and some people HATE carpet. With that being said, there is no harm in mixing the two in homes. With a lot of new builds in 2022, you see a lot of hardwood flooring on the main levels, and in the master, but carpet in the upstairs bedrooms. This has a lot to do with the fact that many parents prefer carpet for children to avoid slippery surfaces, and a cozier feel in their bedrooms. As far as breaking the two down, they each can have their own pricier options that is why it is best to decide beforehand which rooms you want to have what, what the vibe is, and how big the space is. Like I stated earlier, carpet is definitely your more cozy/plush option, but hardwood isn’t necessarily “uncomfortable” if installed correctly. With the cost, carpet is generally going to be cheaper if you’re just going for standard options, but hardwood can increase the value of your home significantly so sometimes it is best to outweigh the costs to value ratio.
